The junta regime's battalion commander was killed in Chin state

24 April 2026

The ongoing conflict between the junta forces and armed groups from Chin has intensified significantly over the past few weeks in Falam town. The junta regime is making renewed attempts to reestablish territorial control over Falam and Surbung airport, aiming to create a strategic base for a major offensive against the Chin armed factions operating in northern Chin state, Myanmar.

The Chindwin learns that Major Thant Zaw, a battalion commander of the junta army under Brigade-77, was killed near Falam town by Chin armed groups.

The Chin's resistance fight marks the collaborative efforts of the Chin Brotherhood (C and Chin Council (CC), which have joined forces to mount a counter-offensive against the junta regime's military presence in this crucial western town.

In response to the escalating conflict, the junta regime has initiated continuous airstrikes targeting areas surrounding Falam town, with a particular focus on Surbung airport.
